CFMOTO climbs to the top of the manufactures, teams and riders’ standings

28.05.2024
The CFMOTO Aspar Team rider, David Alonso, has won his second consecutive race and has a 14-point advantage at the top of the World Championship. Jake Dixon has climbed from eleventh position to third and has scored his first points of the season.

CFMOTO Aspar rider David Alonso is the new leader of the Moto3 World Championship. The Colombian has shone at the Circuit de Barcelona – Catalunya to achieve his second consecutive victory, the fourth so far this year. Alonso has started from sixth position and has been cautious in the first laps, but always in the leading group. As the race has gone on and the performance of the tyres has changed, Alonso has moved ahead of his rivals to position himself at the front. With seven laps remaining, the Colombian who rides a CFMOTO motorcycle has taken the lead after overtaking Iván Ortolá and has been first until the end. Ortolá, who started from pole, has finished second and José Antonio Rueda has ended third after overtaking Collin Veijer on the last lap. With this victory, Alonso regains the Moto3 lead, held by Dani Holgado since the Portuguese Grand Prix. Holgado is now second, 14 points behind the Colombian. The CFMOTO Aspar Team also leads the teams’ championship and leads its immediate pursuer by 14 points.

Joel Esteban has finished fourteenth in his home race. The Spanish has started from fifteenth position and has been very competitive in the first laps. In fact, he has been able to fight in the leading group. However, a collision with another rider when he was eighth has conditioned his race and prevented him from fighting for the front positions. Esteban has tried to make a comeback in the last laps, but finally he has crossed the finish line in fourteenth position.

CFMOTO Aspar Team rider Jake Dixon has achieved his first podium of the season at the Catalan Grand Prix after completing a great comeback. The British has started from eleventh position and has gone from lowest to highest in a tough race at the Circuit de Barcelona – Catalunya. The management of the tyres has been key in the race and Dixon has known how to adapt to the circumstances to meet again with the podium for the first time since his 2023 Catalan GP win. The British has scored his first points of the season, after a start of the season that has not been easy for him. Japanese rider Ai Ogura has won with more than a three-seconds advantage over his teammate Sergio García who has finished second. All this in a race in which one of the favourites, Fermín Aldeguer, has crashed when he was leading. After this race, García extends his lead in the World Championship and is the first rider to maintain the lead for two races in a row.

CFMOTO Aspar Team rider Izan Guevara has not been able to complete a single lap at the Circuit de Barcelona – Catalunya. Guevara has started from thirteenth position and has made a great start. However, in the first corner the American Joe Roberts has touched him and, as a consequence, he has crashed with Somkiat Chantra. Guevara has run out of options at that point. The Spanish already has his mind set on the next race, the Italian Grand Prix next week.
