BIG SURPRISES AT HUNTTHEWOLF 2024

25.05.2024

After five racing days each lasting several hours, just 10 seconds decided the victory in the 17th edition of the world’s most difficult ATV race. 10 seconds. But there was more surprises: out of 50 pilots from 12 countries 31 racers made it to the finish. That is more then expected and maybe due to the “soft”-Extreme edition. Furthermore the overall winner, the Swede Fredrik Bäck, did not win one day, and the unexpected two days winner, Romanian Marian Bordea, ended up on 4th place overall. In addition two of the main favorites, Cosmin Bistrian and Craete Madalin, lost all changes of the podium for different reasons. And then there was the overwhelming performance of CFMOTO. Ok, already last year Europe’s ATV best seller made it on the podium. But this year they somehow dominated HUNTTHEWOLF: 1st and 2nd on the first racing day, 3rd and 4th on second day, 3rd and 4th and 5th on third day, positions 2+3+4+6+7+10 on day four and positions 1+5+6+8 on the final day. This result was achieved in direct battle with some Polaris and over 40 Can-Am's, the brand that has dominated HUNTTHEWOLF since 2007.

So after endless brutal climbs and hair-raising descents on the evening of the fourth day, the two CFMOTO pilots Radu Lungu and Levi Horvath were almost tied at the top of the overall ranking, with 8 minutes of lead time on Fredrik with his Can-Am. HUNTTHEWOLF's first CFMOTO victory was within reach. But there was still one day of racing left. Then promptly at 9.30 a.m. the fifth mass start, followed by a wild 15 kilometers across the fantastic mountain landscape of Transylvania - all the way to this one small canyon. Levi and Radu arrived there in a leading position. But as as the currently best Romanian ATV pilot, Bistrian Cosmin, said after the third day of the race: to win the race of all races, you also need a bit of luck. And the luck was not on the side of CFMOTO. Actually the two Romanian CFMOTO pilots Levi and Radu would have needed … concentration,  more then luck. But against all reasons, they drove into the canyon and winched their way up there, even though they knew that there was no winching announced at HTW-24 and that the given GPS route led to the right over the edge to the top of the canyon in 40 seconds. But nonetheless they spent 10 minutes winching up the canyon. When the mistake was recognized, it was too late, despite a furious ride to catch up with the leading group. Teammate Cosmin saved the honor for CFMOTO with the second win of a racing day, but in the end result Levi and Radu ended up just behind “crazy” Fredrik . The Swede drove an excellent race despite an injury, and was then the lucky winner with over 10.000 Euro in awards and a lifelong free entry to the world’s most challenging ATV race: HUNTTHEWOLF.
